Arora's Plans For A 3rd Runway Dropped
Heathrow's possible third runway expansion barely got a mention in the news. A government website mentioned the Arora Group's plans for a shorter runway had been dropped, and in the coming months the government would be taking Heathrow Airport Limited’s scheme forward to the Airports National Policy Statement (ANPS).
As usual, the government hasn't bothered to tell any of the affected residents of Longford Village nor Harmondsworth about this important development - whilst driving the residents towards becoming homeless as their homes/villages/schools will be bulldozed should the government ever actually decide to go ahead (the earliest might possibly be in 2029) to build the runway!
Meanwhile, Longford Villagers decorated their 2025 Village Christmas tree.
Stop Heathrow Expansion is part of the No 3rd Runway Coalition where you'll see Press briefings.
Currently the Government (in Parliament) is trying to grossly shorten the statutory consultations for DCOs to become law!
However, Labour still have their four tests that we believe a 3rd runway can never pass (though they’ve been keeping quite about them recently!). The Labour Party’s four tests are:-
1. Align with the UK’s legally binding climate obligations and CO2 reduction commitments
2. Provide convincing evidence of the economic need for increased aviation capacity
3. Minimise and reduce local noise and environmental pollution impacts
4. Ensure benefits are felt across the entire country (not just the South East and London)
The latest official information about Heathrow’s expansion https://www.heathrowexpansionwatch.org/stages indicates the government still has to go through the following BEFORE deciding if its actually going to go ahead and build the 3rd runway:-
- Review of the Airports National Policy Statement
- Pre-Submission Statutory Consultation
- Heathrow Expansion Proposals Finalised following Consultation Responses
- Final Expansion Proposal Submitted to the Planning Inspectorate.
