John's September 2025 Meeting

Local residents and supporters saying “No Third Runway” on the 4th September 2025

John McDonnell MP organised a Public Meeting to discuss any expansion proposals from the airport and examine what we can do to prevent this potential disaster for our local community.

Guest speaker Cllr Ian Edwards Leader of Hillingdon Council said:-

- You should be assured that the councils position has not changed, which we believe to be cross-party, the council stands united with the residents in opposition to heathrow’s third runway.

A very interesting thing guest speaker Paul McGuiness - Chair of the No 3rd Runway Coalition said was the government submitted a paper to NATO to say 5% of the UK’s GDP would be spent on security, and that is part made up of the £42 billion to build a 3rdrunway!

A great discussion was had with people asking and saying things about:-

- is Heathrow part owned by a Chinese bank?

- studies on health of people living near airports and under flight paths

- Boeing & Airbus no longer have any plans to develop engines for SAF

- Gatwicks Noise contour is lower than Heathrow’s - Clr Ian Edwards/Hillingdon Council wants the same contour level for heathrow and the proposed Easterly take-offs.

- Heathrow buyouts and large companies with cash are creating HMOs in our villages

- Debate about Heathrow’s letter to the CAA for increased funds whether it’s for house buy-outs or if it’s to improve Heathrows facilities within their fenced boundary.

- Heathrows lies about all their construction being on time and on budget – the central terminal hotel was 2 years {overdue} not to mention Terminal 5!

- Some locals have been accused of being too vocal by independent committees.

- How does Gatwicks extra runway affect heathrow? And the expansion of London City Airport and Stanstead airport?

- Heathrows monopoly of an outdated hub – all planes now capable of flying point-to-point.

- Motorway junction 10 has had disruptive roadworks for months – will all local roads be in that state for years?

- Contrail impacts, climate change, environment

- We need advertising to “promote the villages” and stop the decline of villages

- £49 billion – is there a contingency fund for after the third runway is cancelled?

- Airlines are hostile to increased landing charges.
