Photo Opportunity in Harmondsworth & Uxbridge on Tue 16th Dec
Hi all,
Here’s an update about a couple of things relating to Heathrow happening locally, all on Tuesday 16th December as well as details of “No 3rd Runway Coalition’s” new website page featuring Heathrow Villagers.
Hillingdon Herald: “Back the Blockers!"
The local Hillingdon Herald newspaper is launching a new campaign called "Back the Blockers”, a play on the Government’s ‘back the builders’ slogan and relating to the third runway, in conjunction with Balcony Shirts in Uxbridge.
John McDonnell MP, David Simmonds MP and Lord John Randall have already been pictured wearing the t-shirts and will be featured on the front page of this month’s paper.
Consequently, we are arranging two photo opportunities on 16th December:
The first will take place at 3pm on Harmondsworth Village Green (postcode UB7 0AQ).
The second will take place at 6pm outside the Civic Centre in Uxbridge (postcode UB8 1UW).
Both will be opportunities where residents can be pictured holding up the front page of the newspaper alongside people wearing the new T-shirt. I am encouraging local councillors to attend the second photo outside the Civic Centre in particular.
Please spread the word amongst your contacts to let them know to gather on Harmondsworth Village Green at 3pm OR outside the Civic Centre at 6pm on Tuesday 16th December. You are of course welcome to both photo opportunities, if you would like.
The Hillingdon Herald also includes a new petition, which has been launched by the paper on the Brunel University campus, to oppose Heathrow expansion.
Copies of the paper will be available on the day to take away and distribute locally. Please let me know if you would like a small supply so I can ask the Hillingdon Herald team to bring copies on the 16th.

2) Hillingdon Planning Committee: Heathrow Easterly Alternation
The Hillingdon Planning Committee will be meeting in the Council Chamber at 7pm on Tuesday 16th December to consider Heathrow’s application for Easterly Alternation at the Airport. This will have significant impacts upon the Heathrow Villages in particular, as for the first time there will be noise from take-offs if the application is approved. However, the Council have been pushing for increased protection for residents and as such the officers have recommended approval, subject to heavy conditions around noise mitigation and environmental protection. See the documents in the link below for more information.
Details of the meeting and associated paperwork: https://modgov.hillingdon.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=433&MId=5017
I will be in attendance at the meeting, as will several local residents and representatives.
3) Villagers’ Voices
Finally, the No 3rd Runway Coalition are pleased to launch a new page on our website called Villagers’ Voices. This is aimed at telling personal stories of what Heathrow expansion means to those in the communities that would be destroyed by a third runway. I would like to express thanks to those who gave their time to record a clip. This page is very much a starting point and there will be more clips uploaded in due course. Let me know if you’d like to be featured.
