Campaign group delighted by Mayor of London’s commitment to Heathrow legal action

Stop Heathrow Expansion, a resident-led community group opposed to the third runway at Heathrow, strongly welcomed the decision today by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to support the legal action over Heathrow expansion (1).

Robert Barnstone, Campaign Co-Ordinator, Stop Heathrow Expansion, said: “We are delighted that the Mayor is joining the fight in the courts to stop Heathrow expansion. Many residents feel like the Mayor of London is standing up for their interests, as opposed to the Government, who seem intent on standing up for the business community.”

The villages of Harmondsworth and Longford will be flattened in order to become a runway, with thousands of people losing their homes. Many thought their homes and community was safe following the Government’s decision in 2010 to cancel the previous proposal for a third runway.
