Stop Heathrow Expansion on ITV's The Late Debate
Our Chair, Justine Bayley, featured on ITV’s The Late Debate on Thursday 16th March. Justine spoke about how Heathrow have been trying to get expansion since the 1940s and that they have not succeeded yet, nor will they this time around. She was filmed at her home in Harmondsworth.
John McDonnell MP (Hayes & Harlington) spoke of the need for a green new deal as an alternative to Heathrow expansion, whilst Seema Malhotra MP (Feltham & Heston) said that Labour would need to review whether or not Heathrow meets the party’s tests on expansion. Government Minister Chris Philip MP (Croydon South) said that although the Government backed “economic growth”, it was for Heathrow to demonstrate that it could meet environmental tests with expansion. Sarah Olney MP (Richmond Park) highlighted Heathrow’s problems funding a 3rd runway, arising in part due to the recent ruling by the Civil Aviation Authority to cap passenger charges at a lower level than Heathrow wished for. Sarah also expressed confidence that Heathrow expansion was further away than it has ever been. We agree.
